Tokyo: In Color

In 2019 I had the pleasure of being able to visit Tokyo twice: in the spring and in the fall. Had this year existed in any sense of normalcy I might’ve been able to do the same. Instead, I’m left to reminisce on a different time, in a different place. Please enjoy.

Fall 2013 – Spring 2014: Darkroom Experimentation

In my last year of college I feel like I really “found” something that interested me and was pulling me in a direction that I felt was new and my own. I spent quite a good amount of time secluded in the darkroom, playing with lights and negatives and creating alternate textures. In May of 2014, I featured these images (as well of a few more that were of similar fashion) in a show for my photographic works. I really came to realize how important symmetry and balance are to me and how they make me feel my work has more of a solid ground to stand on. Something I aim to push past is this exact comfort in works that I’m pursuing currently.

I was really interested in printing paper negatives with positives that I created to harness a proportionate balance.

If I could, I would gladly explain the creation of these following interesting prints. I dabbled in a process called Solarization and was more pleasantly surprised with the outcome than I was thoroughly expecting. I only wish I had explored this phenomena further, to better grasp the control of creating these images.

If anyone knows of any dark room photo places in San Diego that would allow me to print, please let me know! I am considering enrolling into a lab unit at a community college just so I can make use of a darkroom again, I miss creating things of this nature.

Coming back.

Hello. It’s been a while.

Last year I had some really incredible opportunities that I failed to share here, and for that I am incredibly sorry. I have grown so much as a person and an artist, and I failed to demonstrate that here as I had intended. As a new year has begun, my aim is to share at least 1 post per a month of work from last year, and at least 1 post per month of new work that I am in the process of.

Please enjoy being a part of my journey. If you are reading this I am eternally inspired, for I have only dreamt that my work would get to be viewed by eyes sparked with interest and intrigue.

I got to spend this past weekend in Ohio visiting my best friend. I took an old roll of film and my old fish eye just to shoot off some physical film. I’m really happy with these memories and really stoked that I got to spend time with Gloriani. I don’t think anyone has ever known me like she does, I see so much of me in her and I hope she feels the same. I feel like I can communicate with you with a single look. Para vivir in la casa, so thirsty I’m foursty. Gloristine forever.

Matt & Morgan || 2014 Wedding

MMOTO Wedding MM54   MM32MM67 MM105

I had the most incredible opportunity this spring: I was given the chance to shoot my first wedding. My cousins Matt and Morgan (who was at the time, my soon to be cousin) inquired about having me shoot their wedding months ago and I was a gigantic ball of nerves for quite a while. But for a weekend in Vegas with all my family, I knew it would definitely be worth it.

I had nearly nothing to worry about, because Morgan was a stunning bride and Matt a handsome groom — which made my job that much easier. The ceremony was beautiful and kicked off with the bride walking down the aisle to the theme from Star Wars, and I don’t think weddings get much cooler than that. From there, it rained a bit, but the reception was planned to be indoors and the food was delicious.

These are a few of my favorite black and white images from the wedding, color images will be posted in a separate post and my flickr will be updated with a grander array of images from this special day.

Thank you again, Matt & Morgan!
